一口に性能といっても、個々のCPUが持つ機能や得意とする処理などには差がありますので、1つのテストだけで結論付けることはできません。
このページでは、非常にメジャーなベンチマークテストであるPassMarkさんのデータをお借りして、PC向けCPUの基本的な演算能力の比較を行っています。
そして、このデータを基にコストパフォーマンスとワットパフォーマンス(電力効率)も割り出していますので、是非参考にして頂ければと思います。
ただし、当サイトで扱うCPUはIntelとAMDの一般向けCPUのみで、サーバー向けや組み込み向けのCPUは対象外ですので、ご了承ください。

ここではCPUに関するデータをランキング形式でご紹介しています。
マルチスレッド性能とは、複数のプログラムを同時に処理する能力のことをいいますが、もっと簡単にいうとCPUがフルパワーで動いた時の性能ということになります。
マルチスレッド性能への影響が大きい要素は、コア数とTDPです。
コアはプログラムの処理を行う装置ですから、この数が多ければ多いほど全体の性能が高くなるのは当然といえば当然です。しかし、プログラム側が処理をうまく振り分けるように作られていないと、使われないコアが生じることもあります。
また、IntelのCPUのコアに関しては注意すべき点があります。
Intelは第12世代CoreからハイパフォーマンスなPコアと高効率なEコアの2系統を混在させ、重い処理を前者に軽い処理を後者に振り分けるようにした結果、全体のパフォーマンスは向上させることに成功しました。
しかし、Eコアは必ずしもPコアの代わりを務めることができる訳ではありません。手に負えないほどの重い処理がEコアに割り振られればボトルネックになりますし、そもそも割り振られないのであればPコアだけで処理を行う必要があるのです。つまり、Eコア何個でPコア1個分という換算ができないのです。
よって、大きな負荷の掛かるソフトを使う予定であれば、Pコアの数に気を付ける必要があるでしょう。
TDPは、発熱量や消費電力の目安ですが、フルパワーをどれくらいの間出し続けることができるかに関わってきますので、実は想像以上に重要な指標です。
いくら高性能なCPUを使っても、CPUクーラーの性能が低ければあっという間にサーマルスロットリング(設定された温度を超えると保護のため無理矢理性能を下げる機能)が発動して、せっかくのパワーが制限されてしまいかねません。特に、発熱の多いハイエンド級のCPUには、非常に冷却能力の高い水冷クーラーを採用することも考慮に入れた方が良いでしょう。

マルチスレッド性能は伝統的にAMDの方が高い性能を見せてきましたが、Intelが徐々に差を詰めた結果、現在は拮抗する形になっています。
どちらも最新世代のハイエンドCPUが旧世代同クラスと比べて数%の伸びしかありませんので少し寂しいですが、電力効率が上がるなどのメリットもありますので、トータルで見るとそれなりに進化したといっても良いかと思います。
特にIntelは第14世代が第13世代のリフレッシュ世代(ほぼ同じ設計)かつ高消費電力で発熱量が大きいという、いわゆる失敗世代でしたので、電力効率の改善に成功したことは大きな成果といえるでしょう。
また、先ほどもお話ししましたがIntelの上位CPUは24コアながらPコアが8、Eコアが16という特殊な構成ですので注意が必要です。
PassMarkのマルチスレッドテストは全てのコアを活かすような作りのようですので、Eコアも最大限活用されてスコアに貢献していますが、例えば10個のコアに重い負荷の掛かるプログラムではPコア8Eコア16では、Pコアが2つ足りません。残りの2コア分の処理をEコアが受け持つとしてもパワー不足が否めませんので、ここがボトルネックになる可能性が高くなります。
あるいはEコアの手に負えない処理は最初からEコアには割り振られないこともありますが、この場合は8個のPコアで回すしかなくなりますので、やはりボトルネックは避けられません。
つまり、こういった場合には12コアのRyzen 9 x900X3D / x900(X)などの方が高い性能を示すこともあり得るということです。
この辺りはソフト次第で変わってくることですので、特定のソフトを使うことが決まっているのであれば前もって調べておくと良いでしょう。ただ、10コア以上のCPUはあまり一般的ではなく、多くのソフトが主流である4~8コアを想定して作られていますので、あまり神経質になる必要もないと思います。
それでは、一般的な用途かつマルチスレッド性能を重視した場合のおすすめCPUを発表します。
基本的には売れ筋でもあるハイクラスからミドルクラスのCPUが鉄板ではあると思います。IntelならCore i7やCore i5、AMDならRyzen 7やRyzen 5が該当します。
ただ、最新世代の出来という意味ではAMDに軍配が上がりますので、Intel向きのソフトを使うのでなければ素直にAMDを選んでおいた方が良いと思います。
また、Intel CPUの注意点としては、より性能を追求するのであればオーバークロックにも対応できるK付きCPU(+ Z系列チップセット)を、またF付きCPUは内蔵グラフィックスがありませんから、グラフィックボードの替えがないのであればFなしCPUを選ぶと良いでしょう。
さらに、これまでコスパの高さから人気となってきたCore i5-13400(F)ですが、第13世代では同クラスの他のCPUと比べてEコア数が少ないですから、おすすめ度は低くなっています。よって、できればCore i5-13500以上を選ぶことをおすすめします。
シングルスレッド性能とは、簡単にいうと1コア当たりの処理能力のことです。
マルチスレッド性能の高いCPUは、複数のプログラムを同時に稼働させたり多くのコアを動員できるプログラムを利用する場合には有効活用できますが、それ以外の用途では力を持て余してしまうことも珍しくありません。
しかし、シングルスレッド性能が高いCPUは、どのような用途においても損をすることがありませんので、できるだけ高性能なものを選びたいものです
シングルスレッド性能においては、世代とクロック周波数が重要な要素になります。
まず世代についてですが、これは厳密にいうと、アーキテクチャ(設計)が基本的な性能を決める、ということになります。通常、世代は同じアーキテクチャのCPUで構成されることがほとんどですから、基本的な性能はどれも似通っているのです。
それでも差が付くのはスペックに差があるからですが、中でも最も影響が大きい要素がクロック周波数です。これは簡単にいうと動作速度のようなものですので、同じアーキテクチャであれば数字の大きいものほど高性能ということができます。

マルチスレッド性能は伝統的にAMDが強さを見せてきたとお話ししましたが、シングルスレッド性能は逆にIntelが圧倒してきました。
しかし、AMDがRyzen 7000シリーズで大きくシングルスレッド性能を伸ばしてきたため、両社のCPUは、歴史上稀に見るほどの接戦を繰り広げたのです。
とはいえ、上位はほぼIntelが独占していたため、シングルスレッド性能ではIntel優勢だったのですが、注意すべき点があります。それは第14世代Intel Coreは第13世代Intel Coreのクロック周波数をわずかに上げただけのリフレッシュ世代で、実質的には同じ世代といっても過言ではないことです。
実際、上記のデータでもほぼ差がなく、クロックなりのスコアアップに過ぎないことが見て取れますので、無理に第14世代Intel Coreを選ぶ理由はないといわざるを得ません。
その後、2024年8月にRyzen 9000シリーズが登場しましたが、ここでついにシングルスレッド性能がIntel CPUに並びました。シングルスレッド性能で近年ここまでAMDがIntelに肉薄したことはありません。
ただ、2024年10月に登場したIntelの最新世代Core Ultra (シリーズ2)がそれなりにシングル性能を伸ばしてきましたので、再びIntelがリードを広げたというのが現在の状況です。
以上により、最新世代同士であればシングルスレッド性能による大きな有利不利はほぼないといっても過言ではなくなりました。強いていうならば、ソフトごとにIntel有利、AMD有利といった向き不向きの差がありますので、事前に調べておくことをおすすめします。
コストパフォーマンス値はマルチスレッドスコアを平均価格で割ったものに100を掛けた数値です。価格100円当たりのマルチスレッドスコアというような意味になりますので、数値が高い方がコスパも良いということになります。
ただし、対象となるCPUはIntelとAMDの直近2~3世代のデスクトップ向けに限定しています。古いCPUは販売を終了していたり価格が高止まりしていますし、ノート向けCPUは単体での販売が行われていないためです。ご了承ください。

一般的にハイクラスなものはコストを度外視して性能や品質を追求しますから、クラスが上がるほどコストパフォーマンスは下がるものです。上記のデータでもやはりその傾向が強く出ています。
そんな中、IntelのCore Ultra 7 265KFやCore i7-14700K(F)、AMDのRyzen 7 5700(X)がハイクラスながら非常に高いコスパを示しています。ただ、Ryzen 7 5700(X)はブランド上はハイクラスという分類ですが、世代が古くまたシングル性能が低いこともあって性能的にはミドルクラスですので注意が必要です。
IntelのF付きCPUは内蔵グラフィックス(iGPU)を持たないモデルで、Fの付かないiGPUありのモデルよりも幾分安くなりますが、iGPUはグラフィックボードが故障した場合などに非常に有用ですから、特にグラボの替えがない人はiGPUありのモデルを選んでおくことを強くおすすめします。
それから、大容量キャッシュメモリを搭載するRyzen 7000X3Dシリーズは、性能こそ3Dの付かない同名モデルと同じ程度はありますが、価格の高さからコスパは低くなっています。
よって、通常用途ではあまりおすすめできないのですが、ゲームなどでは抜群の効果を発揮しますので、考慮に入れておくと良いでしょう。
また、第14世代Intel Coreは前世代となる第13世代Intel Coreの焼き直しで性能もほぼ同じなため、コスパの良い方を選ぶということで良いと思います。とはいえ、同じくらいのコスパであれば新世代を選んでおいた方がメリットは大きいといえるかもしれません。
特にEコアが増えた分、マルチスレッド性能が上がったCore i7-14700K(F)だけは、前世代同クラスのCore i7-13700K(F)よりもはっきりと上といえる存在ですので、Core i7に関してはCore i7-14700K(F)の方が圧倒的におすすめです。
それでは、コスパ重視の場合のおすすめCPUを発表します。
基本はやはりミドルクラスで、IntelならCore i5、AMDならRyzen 5ということになるでしょう。
中でもRyzen 5000シリーズは2世代前ながら通常用途では充分なパワーで価格が安い高コスパなモデルがそろっていますので、おすすめ度はかなり高いです。
IntelならCore i5-14600K(F)のコスパが高いですが、少し高い(40,000円前後)ですから、Core i5-1x400F辺りの方がおすすめしやすいモデルとなります。
また、Ryzen 5 7600やRyzen 5 8600G / 8500Gも悪くはありません。特に後者はAMDのG付きCPUは内蔵グラフィックスが強化されたモデルですので、ゲームなどをハードにしない人にはおすすめです。性能を必要としない人には、旧世代ではありますが、Ryzen 5 5600GT / 5500GTなどでも良いでしょう。
もっと上位のCPUでは、先ほどお話ししたCore Ultra 7 265KFやCore i7-14700K(F)ということになるかと思いますが、ハイスペックCPUはゲームなどの特定の用途以外ではオーバースペックになる可能性が高いですから、無理に選ぶ必要はありません。
ただ、良いCPUは長く活躍してくれることも確かですので、予算に余裕があるのであれば良い選択肢になるかと思います。
それから、AMDのRyzen 9000シリーズやIntelのCore Ultra (シリーズ2)などの最新世代は旧世代がまだ潤沢に供給されていることなどもあってまだまだ高額ですので、もう少し様子見した方が良いかもしれません。
ワットパフォーマンス値はマルチスレッドスコアを最大TDPで割った数値ですので、最大パワー発揮時の1W当たりのマルチスレッドスコアというような意味になりますが、CPUの特性やクーラーの性能など様々な要因により変動する指標でもありますので、参考程度に留めておいて頂ければと思います。

ワットパフォーマンスはTDPの低いものが有利になりやすい指標です。よって、全体的にTDPの低いノート向けCPUの方が圧倒的に有利です。
デスクトップ向けに目を向けると、AMDのCPUが軒並み上位を占める形となっています。
にもかかわらず、現在一般向けで最も多いコア数を誇るRyzen 9 7950X3Dが上位に食い込んでいることは驚異的です。コアが多いほど消費電力、発熱は増加するのが当たり前だからです。
Intelは低消費電力モデルとなるT付きCPUが上位に来ていますが、デスクトップ向けCPUでは無理矢理制限を掛けたようなこれらのモデルは、性能ダウンのデメリットの方が大きいと思いますので、おすすめ度は低いといわざるを得ません。通常モデルのTDPを下げて使いつつ、いざという時はパワーを戻すといった形の方が良いのではないでしょうか。
それでは、ワッパ重視の場合のおすすめCPUを発表します。
データに従うならば、やはりAMDの低消費電力モデルが圧倒的ですので、これらから求める性能や価格に応じて選ぶと良いでしょう。
ただし、上記のデータは最大TDPを用いて算出していますが、通常用途ではTDPの上限に達するほどの負荷が掛かることはあまりないか、かなり限定的にしかありません。
おまけにアイドル状態(システム以外のソフトが動いていない状態)では消費電力はかなり抑えられていますので、デスクトップPCではワッパはそれほど気にする必要はないと思います。
とはいえ、ゲームなど高い負荷が持続的に掛かる特定の用途ではワッパは無視できない要素ですので、しっかりと考慮に入れることをおすすめします。
